Baltimore Orioles 2010 Draft Recap

June 15, 2010

We've already spilled plenty of ink over the Orioles' third round pick, Auburn outfielder Trent Mummey. In hindsight, we're no longer sure what we think about him. After all, on one hand he should immediately inject elite range into Baltimore's minor league system. On the other hand, his OPS was only .906 vs. left-handed pitchers this season. Oh wait, that was his slugging percentage.

In the sixth round, Baltimore nabbed RHP Dixon Anderson, a draft-eligible sophomore from Cal. There seem to be questions as to whether or not he'll stick as a starter in the minors. His sinker has successfully sunk in both roles on college (106/44 GO/AO as a starter, 66/32 GO/AO when pitching out of the 'pen).

With pick #778, the Orioles selected Embry-Riddle C/1B Austin Goolsby. Goolsby is very likely the only player in history to have been both Conference Player of the Year, and the subject of a glowing column from George Will during his college career.
