Cincinnati Reds 2010 Draft Recap

June 17, 2010

For team that was linked with many of the top college arms at #12, the Reds put together an odd first few rounds, taking four college hitters with their first four picks. We've raved about Grandal enough already. Suffice it to say Cinci picked the right guy.

Third-rounder Devin Lohman profiles like your typical middle-infielder: gaudy batting average, low power, burning the basepaths. Our numbers show some possible flaws in his game, though. He rated below average in the field three years running, and it doesn't take an advanced metric to show that 7 steals in 15 attempts isn't going to cut it.

Virginia's Kevin Arico was the second college arm selected by the Reds, and he's the type you'd expect to rock the low minors. He's already set in a relief role, which is only a bad thing if you object to your relievers striking out every fourth guy they face.
