Chicago Cubs 2010 Draft Recap

June 17, 2010

Hey, we love it when Division Two baseball gets some press, which might make us the only folks not scratching our heads over the first-round selection of Hayden Simpson. In fairness to Tim Wilken, 131 strikeouts in 99 innings is awfully impressive no matter which college hitters you're doing it against.

A more by-the-book pick was Micah Gibbs, continuing the parade of LSU Tigers into the Cubs system. It's tough to know exactly what knocked him down so far, as a 1.050 OPS behind the plate sounds nice. Our system didn't love his defense in 2010, but over the course of his career, it rated solidly above-average.

If you're looking for a deep sleeper, look no further than 29th-rounder Casey Harman. None of his peripherals stand out, but he got a whole lot of outs for Clemson. Our system rates his performance as among the five best of anyone chosen between the 20th and 30th rounds.
