Los Angeles Dodgers 2010 Draft Recap

June 16, 2010

We've already said our bit about Leon Landry. He's got a solid bat, and he can definitely run. He looks good in the field, but our metric says -3.9 in the outfield this year, so he's got a lot of work left to do.

Last year, Blake Dean was chosen 312th overall by the Twins. He decided to go back to LSU to raise his draft stock. This year, the Dodgers chose him at 262. Probably not what he hoped for. He still looks like the same player: lefty first baseman with pop, but not big-league slugger pop. On the bright side, he's rated out above-average on defense three years running, so maybe he has a future as J.T. Snow.

With the 1402nd pick, the Dodgers went with Bret Montgomery of D-2 Cal State Dominguez Hills. Here's the quirk: Montgomery, a fifth-year senior, turns 25 in August. Relatively speaking, the rookie-league Dodgers are going to have their very own right-handed Jamie Moyer.
