Colorado Rockies 2010 Draft Recap

June 16, 2010

We like Kyle Parker. He's the Matt LaPorta of this year's draft, a guy with a gift at the plate. For all that, we like Chad Bettis even more--Jeff called him the sleeper pick of the second round.

Next, the Rockies opted for infielder Josh Rutledge. His slash stats are pretty enough for his position, but come accompanied with a walk rate below five percent. These things don't tend to improve with time, so it's tough to get excited about Colorado's third-rounder.

The Rockies also grabbed one of our favorite underdogs, Mercer's Jacob Tanis. Mercer plays a schedule that's barely harder than that of some D-2 teams, but regardless of the competition, there's no doubt Tanis can mash. He strikes out a bit too much (16.2% this year), but some faults can be forgiven when you're slugging .735.

Draft Class Breakdown

Here's a general idea of who they took, and where they got 'em. To compare to other teams and MLB averages, check out this post at THT Live.
