Kansas City Royals 2010 Draft Recap

June 14, 2010

With the 4th overall pick, Kansas City presumably pulled off some type of surprise by selecting Christian Colon. He was an incredibly consistent performer throughout his college career. +32 combined Runs Above Average in 2008, +40 RAA in 2009, and +33 this most recent season.

With defensive range that graded out +4 and +7 the last two seasons according to our play-by-play metrics, he seems a pretty good bet to stick at short stop in the pro ball, despite the conventional wisdom that he's a future second baseman.

The Royals returned 50 picks later and selected Brett Eibner, a guy who ranks as a Top 50 college guy as either an outfielder or pitcher. Scouts seem to like him better on the mound, while Eibner has reportedly indicated a desire to play the field.

With pick #1199, KC took Central Michigan catcher Dale Cornstubble. Dale Cornstubble. How great is that? While Eibner, may prefer a future in the outfield, Dale Cornstubble sounds to us like the kind of person who might have a future career on the Chiefs' offensive line. Or perhaps as a competitive eater.
