Chicago White Sox 2010 Draft Recap

June 14, 2010

Chris Sale has caught the ire of some of the internet pitching mechanics police, but it's pretty tough to argue with his results. No season with a K/9 under 10, with a ratio of 99/52 groundout/flyouts this season and 95/48 groundout/flyouts in 2009. Oh yeah, his K/BB ratio vs. left-handed hitters this season was 43/1.

The White Sox tried to channel some of that San Diego State Tony Gwynn/Stephen Strasburg magic by taking Addison Reed with their third selection. On second thought, maybe it wasn't the Gwynn/Strasburg connection and it was more about Reed's K/9 of over 10 this season and over 12 in 2009.

With pick #308, the Sox selected Alabama infielder Ross Wilson. His defense grades out as average based on our play-by-play metrics, but other teams' Friday night starters obviously put the fear of Bear Bryant into him:

OPS:
FRI: .479
SAT: .881
SUN: 1.059
