Texas Rangers 2010 Draft Recap

June 11, 2010

The Rangers selected UConn third sacker Mike Olt at pick #49, a guy our metrics like very much. This season, he was +31 Runs Above Average, after being comfortably above average the previous two seasons, as well. Add in solidly average/above average defense, and he's got a nice little package. Wait, that didn't sound right. Um, anyways. On to the next guy...

In the 10th round, Texas picked Toledo shortstop Jared Hoying, the school's all-time home run leader. There's talk of moving Hoying to third base, or even centerfield, but he grades out well enough with us defensively, (+4 in 2010, +4 in 2009, +2 in 2008), that the Rangers might want to think twice about that.

In the 39th Round, the Rangers took UAB's Ryan Woolley, who had been drafted by the Braves in the sixth round just a year ago. That's what 33 walks in 64 innings will do to a kid.
