Mommy, Where Do Iowa Wesleyan Tigers Come From?

March 31, 2010

The anatomy of a blog post:

1. We got to thinking: What’s up with Iowa?

2. We headed over to PGCrosschecker to get a better feel for draft-eligible prospects from the Hawkeye state.

3. It turns out there’s the makings of a few junior college baseball powerhouses.

4. We decided to dig into NAIA Iowa schools instead.

5. We stumbled upon the Iowa Wesleyan Tigers and went to check out how far their guys came from to play there.

6. We assumed as far away as Des Moines.

7. We were shocked:

Seriously, look at that map. We couldn’t believe our eyes. A veritable Venezuelan player pipeline? We had to get a feel for how this randomly selected Iowa school’s roster stacked up against others, so we went ahead and grabbed the roster of their first competitor, the University of St. Francis (IN):

% of In-State Players
Iowa Wesleyan: 12.8% (5 of 39)
University of St. Francis: 74.3% (26 of 35)

All of which sent us back to Step 1.
